What began as a dream for owner Scott Thomas and his family, sparked by a life-changing vacation, evolved into a thoughtfully designed property for groups and families seeking something beyond the ordinary. It’s the kind of story that will reshape how you think about what a vacation home can be.
How long have you been in the vacation rental industry, and how did you get started?
While we’ve owned multiple properties, the Grande Dom Estate is our first dedicated vacation rental that we recently started, and it's been a passion project from day one. Five years ago, we vacationed in the Grand Tetons, and it changed our lives. We set out to plant a seed in some of the most beautiful country in the world.
We entered the industry with the goal of creating not just a home, but a destination that delivers transformative luxury experiences and a home base for families and groups seeking unforgettable adventures and moments together.
What is your favorite rental property you own, and why do you love it?
The Grande Dom Estate is by far our favorite; a true labor of love and legacy (and sweat). Built in honor of two extraordinary men who we lost too soon, it represents our belief that life’s greatest wealth is time shared with loved ones. Before their passing, we were already inspired to build a luxury estate unlike any other at the base of the Tetons. After their passing, our vision deepened. Every decision; from the location, to the layout; was made to create a sanctuary where others could forge lifelong memories. If we can play even a small role in those moments, then our vision is realized.
What do you love the most about hosting?
We love giving people something they didn’t know was possible: a curated escape that balances luxury, comfort, and awe-inspiring function & design. It’s not just a place to stay, it’s a feeling that stays with you and leaves you wanting to come back time and again.
Can you share a particular moment or guest review that made all the hard work worth it?
Our very first guests left a note that simply read: “We’re a multi-generational family from one to ninety and it’s so rare to find a place that works so seamlessly across that range to foster connection, whoever designed the property did a phenomenal job, we were thrilled to be here” After a 5 year journey of design, construction, and sacrifice, that short message captured exactly why we built The Grande Dom; to give others a place to reconnect, recharge, and reflect.
How do you create unique and memorable experiences for your guests?
From the moment guests enter the Great Hall, they know this is not just another rental. Every detail, from the custom billiards table in the modern Speakeasy lounge to the immersive Great Hall, to the soaring panoramic mountain views — every part was hand-selected to create a sense of wonder and comfort.
Four themed King Suites offer retreat-like privacy, the bunk room and loft bring adventure for kids and teens, and the luxury steam showers offer spa-level rejuvenation. Even the land itself, five carefully chosen acres, was selected to provide serenity, privacy, and a deep connection to nature.
What's one "pro-tip" you'd be willing to pass on to the community?
Don’t just build a rental; craft a story. Be bold in your design and relentless in your pursuit of excellence. Oh, and never skimp on bedding or pillows. Rest is sacred.
What's the most recent item that you can remember that you've ordered from HostGPO?
The custom sofa from HostGPO was the finishing touch in our Great Hall. It not only fits the room’s aesthetic, but it also elevates it with a seating area big enough to accommodate the large groups who experience our property.
