Designer Spotlight: Curated Designs Studio

By leaving corporate behind and trusting her instincts, Cicelyann Zoccola built a design studio rooted in spaces guests can't stop talking about.

Cicelyann's of Curated Designs Studio Designer Spotlight

Cicelyann Zoccola didn't plan to become a vacation rental designer. She just wanted her own STR to stand out. But when neighboring investors started knocking on her door, she left her corporate job, launched Curated Designs Studio, and never looked back.

Five years in, she's designing spaces that guests remember long after checkout, from sunken fire pits no one else in the market has, to wine cork walls where guests leave a little piece of themselves behind. We sat down with Cicelyann to talk about her design philosophy, what makes a vacation rental truly unforgettable, and the pro tips she wishes more operators knew.

How long have you been a designer, and how did you get started?

I've been fully immersed in interior design for nearly five years now, but my passion for it started long before that. My journey into the professional world of design began when I took on the challenge of designing our own short-term rental investment. I poured my heart into every detail, blending aesthetics with functionality to create a space that truly stood out. Soon, other investors in the area took notice and started reaching out, wanting me to bring the same magic to their properties. That was my lightbulb moment! I took a leap of faith, left my corporate job, and turned my passion into a thriving interior design business. It's been an incredible ride ever since!

What do you enjoy most about designing vacation properties?

There's something truly exhilarating about starting with a completely blank canvas and bringing it to life, piece by piece. I love the process of curating every detail—selecting the perfect colors, textures, and furnishings—until everything seamlessly comes together into a stunning, cohesive space. But the best part? Hearing from my clients about the incredible feedback they receive from their guests. Knowing that my designs create memorable stays and elevate the guest experience is what fuels my passion for vacation rental design!

How do you approach a new project?

We kick off every project by getting to know our clients' vision and goals. Will they be using the space themselves, in addition to renting it out? Or, is it solely about creating an unforgettable guest experience? Understanding this helps us design a space that functions seamlessly.

We also look for ways to make the property stand out. Maybe it has a breathtaking view, a unique architectural detail, or an opportunity to add something special that sets it apart from the competition. Our goal is to highlight those features and create an experience that feels both effortless and elevated.

With this approach, every space we design isn't just beautiful—it's inviting, functional, and uniquely tailored to make a lasting impression.

How do you create unique and memorable experiences for guests?

Every property has a personality, and we bring it to life through intentional design choices. Whether it's a cozy retreat, a luxe getaway, or a vibrant vacation spot, we craft an atmosphere that aligns with the experience guests crave.

Whether it's a jaw-dropping design moment, a cozy nook that feels like a hidden gem, or high-end touches that elevate the stay, we infuse every project with unexpected details that guests will remember—and rave about.

By focusing on both design and experience, we create spaces that don't just look good but feel unforgettable. Guests leave not only impressed but eager to return.

What is your favorite project you have done and why do you love it?

Hochapine Trail is one of my top two favorite projects. We had the opportunity to handpick finishes and fixtures, provide input on functionality, and even influence the build itself to create a standout design. Some of the key features included a sunken firepit—something completely unique to that market—a fun photo wall designed to boost social media engagement, and a wine cork wall where guests can drop their corks and leave a piece of history behind. The overall cozy-yet-modern cabin vibe ties it all together, making the space both memorable and highly marketable.

Can you share a story/feedback from a client or guest that made all the hard work worth it?

I love when my clients share guest reviews raving about the design, unique features, and how comfortable and well-thought-out the space feels. Seeing both guests and clients thrilled with the experience is the ultimate reward—and it makes this designer incredibly happy!

What's one "pro-tip" you'd be willing to pass on to the community?

When creating spaces for short-term rentals, think beyond just aesthetics—every design choice should enhance the guest experience while standing up to high turnover. Choose high-quality, easy-to-clean materials, invest in statement features that make the property stand out in listings, and create a layout that feels intuitive and inviting. Small touches like well-placed charging stations, layered lighting, and cozy yet stylish furnishings can make a huge impact on reviews and repeat bookings. Ultimately, a great STR design isn't just about looking good—it's about creating a space that feels effortless, memorable, and built to last.
